We understand that foreign students find themselves in new surroundings and therefore face a number of problems: new people, different system of training, unfamiliar city. Our mentoring program where experienced university staff are engaged helps new students integrate faster.

In this regard, our staff is responsible for:

Taking steps aimed at adaptation of foreign students to the social environment of Minin University and the city of Nizhny Novgorod.
Taking steps aimed at encouraging foreign students to join Minin University student associations and to get involved in project activities.To assist foreign students while those participate at various events of the university, city or the region aimed at cross-cultural communication and immersion in the local social and cultural environment.
To promote self-development of foreign students. For example, our students are active participants of the «Festival of World Nations» run by the University, and they attend city and regional events. Besides, there are literary club sessions for foreign students where everyone has an opportunity to make oneself familiar with books written by authors from all over the world. The session cycle «Cultural Property” lets foreign students plunge into culture and art of Russia via thematic lectures, discussions, tours, videos and movies, etc.

Student’s associations

Our Russian students also help foreign students to fully enjoy the ‘university life’. For example, we have two relevant student’s associations.

‘Glagol!’ Russian Communication Association

The title is a wordgame. ‘Glagol’ means ‘a verb’ in Russian. If you add just one more letter at the end, making the last ‘l’ a bit softer, it would mean the imperative form of ‘to talk, to say’ in Old Russian.
Foreign students can improve their Russian here! The association is more of a ‘colloquial club’ providing students with interesting conversation opportunity, fascinating competitions, new acquaintances. If you want to raise your level of Russian, improve comms skills and spend time among friends, do join us!
We also arrange city tours for club members, they attend exhibitions and also events in adjacent ancient towns Gorodets and Semenov.

Student’s club of the international cooperation «Ailaowai»

International cooperation association «iLaowai»

Its activity is to develop Russian-Chinese youth cooperation, to assist young Chinese students during their integration into the educational, social and cultural environment of the university.

«iLaowai» gives the chance to each student:

to enjoy communication with representatives of different cultures;
to improve knowledge of foreign languages;
to develop leadership and organizational skills;
to work in a team of soul mates.

Every meeting of the association is devoted to a special topic. Various events are organized for students: e.g, «Mid-Fall Festival», «Popular expressions and phrases» and others. Members of iLaowai participate in the World Nations festival where they represent their own countries.
